Student loan forgiveness for Massachusetts, Rhode Island borrowers comes in at $23 million
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Biden administration published a state-by-state breakdown of nationwide student debt relief in the total amount of $1.2 billion.
But where do Rhode Island and Massachusetts borrowers stand?
According to this list, 450 Rhode Island residents and 2,400 Massachusetts residents will have their loans forgiven.
The relief adds up to $23 million for both states.
If you have had your loans forgiven, you will receive an email informing you of the decision, but it may take a few weeks for it to take effect.
More legislation is being planned by the Biden administration for student debt relief, particularly for borrowers experiencing hardship.
These decisions come in the wake of the United States Supreme Court striking down the administration’s debt relief efforts last year.
