Hundreds pay respects to Boston officer, laid to rest Monday

BRAINTREE, MASS. (WLNE)- Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, 46, who was pronounced dead after being found in the snow outside a Canton home last month will be laid to rest Monday.
O’Keefe’s girlfriend, 41-year-old Karen Read of Mansfield, is charged with vehicular homicide in his death.
Members of the police force and loved ones lined the streets outside a church in the officer’s hometown of Braintree to pay their respects Sunday.
A funeral Mass for O’Keefe is set to be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Washington Street in Braintree at 11:30 a.m.
This will be followed by a private burial.
O’Keefe leaves behind a niece and nephew, who he adopted after his sister died of a brain tumor in 2013, and her husband died of a heart attack a short time later.
“John will be greatly missed by his friends and colleagues here at the Boston Police Department as we send our heartfelt condolences to his family, and loved ones during this difficult time,” says fellow officers of the Boston Police Department.
