Hurricane Erin Impacting Southern New England’s Coast

Hurricane Erin may be a few hundred miles offshore, but it’s still causing coastal problems for Southern New England.

WHEN: Now through Friday night

WHAT: Coastal concerns

  • Coastal flooding: flooding up to one foot possible in low-lying areas, especially around high tide (6 AM – 10 AM & 6 PM – 10 PM Friday)
  • Rough surf: Wave heights could get up to 15 feet
  • Rip currents: Conditions will be dangerous for swimmers
  • Gusty winds: gusts in the 20s & 30s

We’ve been cool and cloudy thanks to Erin as well. Overnight, lows will be in the upper 50s. However, as Erin continues to move to the northeast, Friday will look and feel a lot different. Expect a mostly sunny day with high temperatures around 80 degrees. A tempting day to go to the beach, no doubt, but make sure you’re heeding the Watches, Warnings & Advisories surrounding this storm!

With Erin up toward Atlantic Canada on Saturday, conditions here at home continue to improve. We’re still expecting a moderate rip current risk on Saturday, but waves heights will slowly decrease and conditions will calm throughout the day. It’ll otherwise be a beautiful, mostly sunny summer day with highs in the low 80s.

Sunday we’ll have a mix of sun & clouds, and it’ll be a bit cooler with highs in the upper 70s.

Stay safe, and have a great end of your week/weekend!
