Hurricane Franklin plays a role in our weather pattern today
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) –Another morning of dense, patchy fog around the area.
The rain tries to creep into the area, but seems to stay mostly off shore, but areas along the coast may see some showers especially along the Cape and South Coast.
Today will be mostly cloudy with breaks of sunshine throughout the day with highs reaching the mid to upper 70’s. A few scattered showers are possible.
Hurricane Franklin is now a category 4 hurricane moving NNW at 9mph. This hurricane will stay to the southeast of us.
Franklin continues to drive our local weather pattern this week, and frankly, making it a difficult to forecast what exactly will happen today.
When you have a category 4 hurricane the size of New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont combined you would expect it to have an impact on our weather.
As Franklin churns in the Atlantic, it will drive the winds, rain, and clouds today and tomorrow.
Franklin is not going to make contact with the US, but it will bring some rough surf and gusty winds to Bermuda and that rough surf will be felt all the way along the east coast this week. For our area, expect moderate rip currents at our beaches Wednesday, Thursday, and possibly Friday.
High pressure system moves in by Thursday and that sets us up for a beautiful holiday weekend.
