I-195 ramp to Veterans Memorial Parkway closing

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The bridge that carries traffic from Interstate-195 East to Veterans Memorial Parkway in East Providence is closing.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation says the bridge is scheduled to close as of Saturday and won't be reopened until next summer. Only the right lane of the ramp, which goes to Veterans Memorial Parkway, will be inaccessible. The left lane, which goes to Route 44, or Taunton Avenue, will remain open. Motorists should follow detour signs.
Transportation officials say the bridge is being rebuilt for $2 million. It's part of a larger project to renovate the old Washington Bridge and create a linear park and bikeway.
