ICE presence sparks protest in Warren

WARREN, R.I. (WLNE) — A group of protesters gathered on Water Street in Warren Tuesday morning after seeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the area.
An ABC6 News crew on scene reported the agents were inside vehicles in the area of Blount Fine Foods before getting out of the vehicles and proceeding to the area behind the business.
About 50 protesters stood on street corners nearby.
One told ABC6 News she first saw ICE agents in the area just before 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Protesters left the area after the agents did, around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
It was unclear if any arrests were made by the federal authorities.
In a statement provided to ABC6 News, a Blount Fine Foods spokesperson said: “We heard that ICE was present on Water Street today and in the general vicinity of our plant. We did not have any communication with ICE agents and they did not enter our building. We’re monitoring the situation as you are. Our employees are a top priority to us at Blount.”
A emailed message to an ICE spokesperson asking for comment on the matter has not been returned.
ABC6 News also reached out to Warren police for comment on the matter, but we have not yet heard back.
