ICE says Brazilian national with gang ties detained in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it apprehended a Brazilian national with gang ties who was illegally in the United States.
21-year-old Caio Vitor Guimaraes-Silva had previously been convicted of assault and battery against a Massachusetts resident and was apprehended on Feb. 3.
Guimaraes lawfully entered the United States on Sept. 3, 2017, and later violated the terms of his lawful admission.
He had been sentenced in September 2024 to one year in prison but the court suspended all but 90 days of time served.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted with the arrest.
