Infant’s body found in New Bedford park

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s office said that the New Bedford Police Department is investigating after the body of an infant that was found at Fort Taber Park Saturday afternoon.

Second Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sowa said that around 1 p.m. an adult walking a path in the park saw a blanket and smelled the “odor of decay” coming from it.

When police arrived they discovered the body of a decomposing infant, which was then transported to the Massachusetts Medical Examiners Office.

Massachusetts State Police Director of Communications David Procopio said that an investigation into the death is underway and that detectives and crime scene personnel were on the scene.
