Inmate dies overnight at Cranston Intake Service Center
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — An inmate died overnight at the Rhode Island Department of Correction Intake Service Center in Cranston.
Chief of Information and Public Relations J.R. Ventura said that around 2 a.m. an inmate alerted staff at the center that their cell mate was in “medical distress.”
Ventura said that nursing staff provided medical assistance and called Cranston Rescue, who brought the inmate to Rhode Island Hospital, where he later died.
The incident is under investigation by RIDOC and State Police.
