CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – A violent altercation between inmates prompted a lockdown at the ACI’s Medium Security facility in Cranston on Sunday.
A source tells ABC6 News an inmate was stabbed in the face with a razor blade.
According to the Department of Corrections, the inmate was taken to the hospital to be treated. He was conscious, alert and responsive.
The other inmate is being questioned about the incident.
Officials say the facility is on lockdown to make sure the area is secured, and safety protocols were activated as part of our normal response procedures.
A spokesperson for the DOC said this seems to be an isolated incident.
They said no other individuals were involved, and the matter is currently under investigation.
All other staff and inmates inside the facility are safe.
Visiting hours were canceled for the day following the altercation. The facility will resume its normal visiting schedule tomorrow.
