International Tennis Hall of Fame announces renovations to museum
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The International Tennis Hall of Fame museum is getting a makeover.
“People should be proud and happy that there is a destination such as this,” Tennis Hall of Fame CEO Dan Faber said. “It’s a global destination right in New England.”
A new project will soon be underway this November at the museum.
Visitors will be able to experience new features and physical spaces to celebrate legends and support the sport’s growth.
“We’re celebrating the history of the game,” Faber said.
The price of this project is just north of $3 million, funded by a portion of the Tennis Forever Capital campaign in which private donors contributed money beginning back in 2018.
“It will be more relevant and be more engaging,” Faber added. “Have more of that digital aspect. I think everybody will have fun.”
These are the first renovations the museum is going to see since 2015.
The designers behind this project are excited to bring these champions’ stories to life with the ability to increase the capacity of the archives on display.
“Balancing the modernization of the storytelling against some of the historical context of this building in particular,” advent director of conceptual design Reese Stevens said. “But also the legacy that is housed within it was one of the key tension points of the project.”
“Being able to bring the relevance forward of some of the more historical players and contributors of the game and bringing to light one of the more under told stories which is how the U.S. Open got its start here in Newport,” Stevens added.
The museum will reopen its doors in May of 2025, but the rest of the club is open during renovations.
