Neighbors are on edge after a home invasion in Providence this week. Making matters even more terrifying, the intruder impersonated a police officer.
Enid Santana is now reluctant to open the door these days. She lives across the way from the Padleford St. home when the invasion happened, and says the victim ran to her house for help.
“Somebody want to kill me,” she said her neighbor told her.
That neighbor made it out unharmed. He stayed in her drive way until police could respond.
“Police go in the house and check but there is no body there,” Santana said.
According to the police report, the victim was sleeping when he heard someone break in through the back door. He got up and saw a black man wearing a ski mask, wielding a crow bar. The intruder allegedly yelled "police,” and appeared to have a badge dangling around his neck.
The victim gave the man his wallet before escaping. The house was ransacked, but there was no sign of the robber.
“That is scary because usually if somebody says ‘police’ what ever they ask you for you give. You know? Or you answer,” said neighbor Mary Schenck.
Schenck has lived in the neighborhood for decades and has never heard of anything like this before.
“I usually lock my doors around 10, but I’ll be locking them a little earlier now,” she said.
So far there are no arrests in the case.
