Investigation concludes no operator error in fatal bus accident

An investigation into the death of a young girl after she was struck by at RIPTA bus last week has determine the bus driver was not at fault.

Providence Police say the bus driver, 42-year-old Eric C. Seaberg, was driving below the 25 MPH speed limit at the time of the accident. They say his initial toxicology results came back negative.

Police say the reconstruction of the accident revealed the bus was traveling west on Smith Street when 9-year-old Ani Emdjian ran across the street and was struck by the bus.

She was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

It was also determined the RIPTA bus was free of any mechanical defects.

The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office has been requested to and will be conducting a review of this case.
