Investigation into police conduct in Karen Read case closed, special prosecutor confirms

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — After another pre-trial hearing in the high profile Karen Read case on Tuesday, a federal investigation into police conduct in the case is over.

Special prosecutor Hank Brennan confirmed in court that the federal investigation looking into how police handled the case has been concluded.

That came as the defense argued the state is guilty of “extraordinary governmental misconduct” in how it’s investigated and presented the case.

We did not learn today if any of Karen Read’s attorneys will be sanctioned amid the prosecutor’s allegation they paid witnesses in the first trial.

In court, the defense team said it wants to present a number of videos as part of a motion to dismiss the case.

The defense and prosecution teams also went back and forth on whether a dog behavior expert should be allowed to testify for the prosecution at the second trial.

The pre-trial hearings in the Read case pick back up again Wednesday morning where more motions will be heard.

The second trial is set to start next month.
