Investigation into South Kingstown helicopter crash continues
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Wednesday morning an investigation continues in South Kingstown after a helicopter went down into Worden’s pond.
Right now that helicopter is still in the water.
The crash happened around 9 a.m. yesterday.
54-year-old Jeff Codman, the helicopter pilot, was treated by emergency services and released at the scene.
The passenger, Amira Malik, was taken to South County Hospital with minor injuries.
They were both employees of Regent Craft, a North Kingstown sea glider manufacturer.
They were testing the downward-facing sensors on the water when the crash happened.
The two had to climb on top of the helicopter until they could be rescued by boat.
The helicopter is now fully submerged in the pond.
Authorities say the owner and insurance company are working to get it removed.
While the State Department of Environmental Management deals with the minor hazmat issue.
