Wednesday marks the busiest travel day of the year for Americans as people head out of town for Thanksgiving.
47 million people are expected to take either a car, train, bus or plane over the long holiday weekend.
Amtrak expects to transport 140,000 people that day alone, and countless more over the next four days.
The Providence station is preparing to accommodate the expected surge of riders on trains and in their stations.
Additional trains and cars have been added to try and accommodate as many travelers as possible.
Amtrak officials still encourage anyone heading out for the holiday to prepare ahead of time.
“The most important thing to do is to make sure you purchase your ticket early as possible just because we have added extra trains however there are some trains that sell over in this period so make sure you do that.”
You also want to make sure to arrive to the train station as early as possible. Amtrak has upped their security since the Paris terror attacks and will be conducting random security checks.
There will be additional staffing here throughout the day to help accommodate the huge increase in passengers.
