Jamestown Police say 4 swimmers rescued after canoe overturned

JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The Jamestown Police Department said that four people were rescued on Aug. 1 after a canoe overturned near Taylor Point and Potter’s Cove.

Police said that the four swimmers were about 100 yards from shore and were clinging to the canoe when an officer and bystanders entered the water with life rings to assist them.

The four swimmers were brought ashore, evaluated, and refused transport to the hospital.

Police were assisted by the Jamestown Fire Department, the Coast Guard, and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
