JJ Abrams movie production to shake up Providence traffic for two weeks
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The “Creative Capital” will be earning its nickname, as it serves as a cinematic backdrop for the next two weeks.
Providence officials will be closing roads this morning for one of two major motion picture productions.
According to the Providence Journal, J.J. Abrams is filming a movie called “Ghostwriter” in the Providence.
So they can shoot in the city, officials will close three streets on the city’s east side to accommodate filming.
Starting at 10 this morning, Thomas Street will be closed to all traffic, while Angel Street will see closures from Prospect to Benefit Street.
Additionally, Benefit Street will be closed from Waterman to Meeting Street.
Those closures will lift this afternoon at 4.
And then this weekend, the Point Street Bridge will be closed Sunday morning at 8, until Monday morning at 9.
While the plot is not known, according to IMDb, Ghostwriter will star Jenna Ortega, Glen Powell and Samuel L. Jackson.
This is the second feature film to be shot in Providence this year, with work on M Night Shyamalan’s “Remain” with Jake Gyllenhaal having been seen shooting at the Cranston Street armory earlier this summer.
