JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The town of Johnston opened a new inclusive playground on Wednesday at Memorial Park.

Officials said the playground will offer an inclusive playing environment for all children.

The playground features an accessible merry-go-round, an upper-body stationary cycle for the arms, an American Sign Language communication board and more.

“This was long overdue, as providing youth recreation is a core municipal function,” Mayor Joseph Polisena Jr. said in a post on social media. “With the old playground, too many kids were left out. Now, children of all abilities have a place to play.”

Officials said A $100,000 donation from Grieco Automotive Group made many of the inclusions possible.
