Johnston Police Chief Richard Tamburini to retire after 25 years as chief

JOHNSTON, RI (WLNE) –  Johnston Police Chief Richard Tamburini will retire in August after 25 years of serving as the city’s police chief.

Tamburini is the longest tenured Rhode Island Police Chief and the longest standing Police Chief of the Johnston Police Department, according to the department.

Chief Tamburini was sworn in as Johnston’s police chief on Aug. 17, 1995. Tamburini had previously served in the Providence Police Department for 29 years before becoming Johnston’s Police Chief, according to  Johnston Police.

His last day as chief will be Aug. 31.
