Judge dismisses O’Keefe niece’s emotional distress claim from lawsuit

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — One allegation was dismissed from the civil lawsuit of Karen Read.

A judge is allowing most of the other claims in the case to continue forward.

Newly-filed court documents show Judge Daniel O’Shea allowed Read’s motion to dismiss a claim of negligent infliction of emotional distress on John O’Keefe’s niece.

The judge ruled the niece did not see O’Keefe’s injuries like other family members.

Claims filed by other family members were allowed to move forward.

A claim of reckless and/or intentional infliction of emotional distress will also be allowed to move forward.

Boston police officer John O’Keefe’s family sued Read and two Canton bars where the couple was drinking before his death.
