JWU Softball Sweeps Daniel Webster

Nashua, N.H. – The Johnson & Wales softball squad swept Daniel Webster in a non-conference doubleheader on the road at Eagle field on Sunday afternoon.  JWU posted an 8-0 win in the opener and finished the sweep with a 13-5 victory in the nightcap.  Both games were halted after five innings of play.

In the opener, JWU was led by sophomore Heather Imperatore (Westerly, R.I.) with four RBI including an inside-the-park three-run homer in the first inning while freshman Alyssa Babineau (Princeton, Mass.) added two hits including a two-run single in the second.  Babineau (3-3) allowed just one Eagle hit over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. Sophomore Ellis Kim (Glendale, Calif.) added three hits in the victory for JWU.

In the nightcap, the Wildcats struck for five runs in the top of the first and led 6-0 before the Eagles rallied with five in the bottom of the second.  JWU took control with a six-run third and were aided by five Eagle errors in the game.  Freshman Robyn Ziegler (Doylestown, Pa.) paced the Wildcat attack going 4-for-4 with three RBI while junior Amy Fish (Oxford, Mass.) added two hits and added an RBI in the victory for the JWU.  Freshman Taylor Cwalinski (Jackson, N.J.) earned the win, allowing one earned run on three hits in five innings, striking out five and walking four.

With the two wins JWU is now 4-9 overall while Daniel Webster falls to 0-2 for the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, March 30th when they travel to Mitchell for a non-conference double header beginning at 3:00 p.m.
