K-9 Zeus honored with funeral procession through Cranston

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — It was a tearful goodbye to a hero in the Cranston Police Department on Monday as officers said farewell to K-9 Zeus.

They honored him with a funeral procession, with one last call at the Cranston Police Headquarters.

Zeus lost his life Saturday after suddenly becoming sick.

“The police get very, very attached. These dogs work an awful lot in dangerous situations,” Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins said. “It is sad when we lose one of them like this.”

Sergeant Gregg Bruno, Zeus’s handler, was greeted with support from the community after the K-9’s final call.

Cranston police said Zeus left a lasting impact on so many over the years.

He was responsible for successfully cracking many cases within the department.

“They make the most incredible sacrifice every day to keep us safe,” said Seekonk resident Alison Auger. “K-9s do that every day without even thinking about it. K-9s and the officers deserve all the thanks from the community.”
