Karen Read trial goes to jury deliberations

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The jury now has to deliberate in the Karen Read case this afternoon after closing arguments wrapped up Friday.

Read stands accused of second-degree murder and faces two lesser charges in the death of her then-boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, in 2022.

Her first trial ended in a mistrial after the jury couldn’t agree on a unanimous verdict.

Prosecutors allege she hit O’Keefe with her SUV and left him to die in the cold while the defense said the investigation was mismanaged.
