Labor of love: New labor and delivery unit set to open at Women and Infants Hospital
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Care New England is preparing to welcome patients to the new Brown University Labor and Delivery Center at Women and Infants Hospital next week.
“Women and Infants delivers 81% of babies in the state right now,” Women and Infants Hospital COO and President Shannon Sullivan said. “We deliver the most babies in the region.”
Since breaking ground in May of 2023, the state-of-the-art facility will be the home of 20 labor and delivery beds for mothers across Rhode Island.
Around 8,600 babies are born at the hospital each year.
“To have a space that both meets the clinical needs of the patients and the communities that we serve but also really enhances the patient experience,” Sullivan added.
In this new space, everything from the lighting, technology, and design of the rooms are customizable for patients.
“The ability for us to now have an experience for women who deliver here is really phenomenal,” Care New England CEO and President Dr. Mike Wagner said.
Care New England said the ideas and creativity behind the design came from the staff, which also make the experience for the medical teams exceptional.
