Lane closures planned for Route 37 in Cranston

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Officials announced Monday that drivers should be aware of lane closures on Route 37 this coming weekend.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said the lane closures will take place for road work on Route 37 eastbound near the Pontiac Avenue exit in Cranston.

RIDOT said the closures are set to begin at 9 p.m. Friday and may extend through the weekend.

All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. on Monday, and at least one lane of travel will remain open at all times, according to officials.

RIDOT said traffic using the on-ramp from Pontiac Avenue northbound to Route 37 East will need to come to a full stop before merging onto the highway.

The closures are part of work on the highway on either side of the bridge over the Pawtuxet River, installed by RIDOT last fall.

Officials said drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes.
