Lane of traffic to shift onto new flyover bridge in North Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said it will shift traffic on one lane southbound onto the new Route 146 flyover bridge at the Sayles Hill Road intersection Thursday evening.

RIDOT said that Route 146 at the intersection of Sayles Hill Road will be narrowed with lane splits for construction, and the maximum vehicle width will be 10 feet.

The other southbound travel lane will remain at ground level and the traffic signal will be adjusted to “ensure that the intersection functions at maximum efficiency.”

RIDOT said the new configuration will last until the end of the year, and the final configuration will be two lanes north and south over the flyover bridge.
