Last minute push from local campaign volunteers

Local supporters of  Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are working down to the wire, spending the final hours before polls open trying to reach voters.

At GOP Headquarters in Warwick Monday night many volunteers were working the phones. Corresponding Secretary of the RI GOP Gina Catalano says the focus on the last night of the campaign is to reach voters in battle ground states.

"We’re making calls for Maine,” said Catalano. “Sometimes North Carolina and Florida."

The phones were also being worked by Hillary Clinton supporters at Congressman David Cicilline’s campaign headquarters. A large group gathered there making a final push to reach voters.

"I had something else planned tonight and I told my friend I’m doing some critical campaigning tonight. She was a little surprised that I used the word critical but I mean it. Every minute is important,” said Clinton supporter Paul O’Donnell.

Other Clinton supporters spent their nights leaving stickers on voters doors.

"It’s important that people feel that we try to reach out to them and that we are paying attention to them,” said Clinton supporter Kathleen Gannon.

Catalano says Trump volunteers are done with door knocking, leaving their last minute emphasis on handing out signs and making calls.

"All weekend long there was door knocking today there is no door knocking,” said Catalano. "It’s more important to make sure people go to the polls."

Of course there will be another round of last minute campaigning Tuesday morning. Volunteers from each camp say they are offering rides to the polls in an effort to ensure that people vote.
