Law protecting 911 callers reporting overdoses set to expire

By The Associated Press
The law offers limited immunity from drug charges for someone seeking medical assistance at the scene of an overdose.
A bill approved by the Senate last month would have expanded the immunity provision to include anyone involved in the delivery or sale of a controlled substance, as well as probation or parole violators.
State Attorney General Peter Kilmartin opposed the expansion provision, saying it would limit prosecution of drug crimes.
The General Assembly adjourned Thursday night with both sides failing to approve one bill that would reauthorize the law.
