PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Two state lawmakers are encouraging their colleagues to wear bow ties and scarves to raise money to fight bullying.

Republican Reps. Robert Nardolillo, of Coventry, and Robert Lancia, of Cranston, are asking lawmakers, staff and pages to support their second annual “Bow Ties Against Bullying” campaign by wearing a bow tie or scarf to the State House on Wednesday.

Nardolillo and Lancia say they’ll donate $5 each to the Samaritans of Rhode Island for each representative who participates. The nonprofit provides educational programs about bullying awareness and prevention.

Nardolillo says too many young people are victims of bullying and it needs to stop. He says he hopes the campaign helps raise awareness.

Lancia says the campaign will show that lawmakers are united in combatting bullying.
