Legislative leaders considering emergency borrowing for coronavirus response

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – House and Senate leaders will meet Thursday to consider a proposal by Governor Raimondo to borrow emergency funds for Rhode Island’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.
In a letter sent yesterday, Governor Raimondo asked the board to meet and approve the borrowing of $300 million from the federal government or other sources to help fund the state’s coronavirus response.
The board is scheduled to meet on Thursday, March 26 at 11:30 a.m in the State Room of the State House.
There will be no access to the Stae Room in order to follow COVID-19 prevention protocols, but public comments can be emailed to relief-funding@rilegislature.gov
The meeting will be televised on Capitol television.
