Level-two sex offender arrested for illegal possession of firearms

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department shared today that they seized illegal firearms from a convicted level-two sex offender.
Alexander Luis Reis, 26, of New Bedford was stopped by police officers after receiving information that he was in the possession of illegal firearms while on probation.
Officer Brandon Duarte issued a search warrant at Reis’ home, concluding the investigation.
On Jan. 17, around 6 p.m., Reis’ car was stopped by detectives where he was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.
Officials converged at Reis’ home on Sagamore St. where they found an AR-15 rifle and numerous rounds of ammunition.
Reis was arrested on scene and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and illegal possession of a rifle and ammunition.
Reis is currently being held without bail and is set to appear in court on Feb. 23.
