PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Lifespan has announced that it is the winning bidder to purchase Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, MA and Morton Hospital in Taunton, MA from current owner Steward Health Care Systems.

The purchase price of the two hospitals is $175 million, which will be financed.

The company will also receive “modest support” from Massachusetts for a short time to support hospital operations.

Lifespan has also bought the land and buildings used by the hospitals.

Lifespan of Massachusetts would own the hospitals if the sale is approved.

“Adding Saint Anne’s and Morton hospitals creates a unique opportunity to build our regional healthcare organization that will benefit the health of the communities in both states,” said Lifespan President and CEO John Fernandez. “I want to thank all the physicians, nurses and all the employees of these two hospitals who continue to care for patients during this very difficult time.”
