Lighthouse Inn demolition underway in Narragansett
NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — Demolition of the Lighthouse Inn in Narragansett is officially underway on Thursday.
The demolition has been pushed back multiple times this week, after crews found Styrofoam insulation in the roof rafters which had to be removed.
The insulation needed to be removed to prevent Styrofoam from ending up all over the ground and in the air once demolition began.
We spoke with the Department of Environmental Management’s Michael Healey on the next steps for site of the property.
Healey told ABC6 that the demolition project is part of an overall mission to support Galilee fishermen.
Healey says Galilee is home to around 200 commercial fishing boats that make up the majority of Rhode Island’s commercial fleet, supporting Rhode Island’s economy through seafood and other products.
