EASTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Easton Fire Department said they put out a fire at a condominium complex on Sunday evening.

On Aug. 4 just before 8 p.m., officials said they received a call of a fire in a condo unit on Pinebrook Lane.

Officials said all occupants of the building were evacuated before their arrival.

On arrival, firefighters said they saw the fire coming from the second floor and roof of the unit.

Officials said they battled the fire for about 45 minutes in high heat, humidity and heavy rain.

“The fire was located in an area where it was difficult for crews to gain access, firefighters also faced challenges with the high heat, humidity, and heavy rain,” Chief Alexander said in a statement. “I want to thank our firefighters and the several neighboring departments for their assistance in extinguishing the fire quickly and preventing the spread to other condo units.”

The unit where the fire originated has been deemed uninhabitable and eight residents who have been displaced are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Officials said there were no injuries and they were able to rescue the family’s cat.

A preliminary investigation suggested that the fire was started by a possible lightning strike.

Officials said that the fire remains under investigation with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit.
