Lincoln Man charged with Felony Reckless Driving

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – A motorcyclist was charged with reckless driving after traveling at a high rate of speed down Route 1 in South Kingstown.

An officer using a handheld LIDAR unit recorded 32-year-old Paul A. Pereira Monteiro  Jr, of Lincoln, traveling at 101-miles-per-hour and weaving in and out of traffic. Pereira Monteiro abandoned his motorcycle at the Oliver Stedman Government Center and ran into the Wakefield DMV. Officers ultimately arrested him in the parking lot with the assistance of a Rhode Island Capitol Officer and several eyewitnesses.

Pereira Monteiro has a prior conviction for reckless driving, leading to this second offense to be classified as a felony.

He was arraigned in Washington County District Court and held on $5,000 surety bond.
