Lincoln police increase patrols, warn residents after 2 break-ins within 2 weeks

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE)- Lincoln police are asking residents to be on high-alert after several reports of break-ins and suspicious activity.
“In the past two weeks there has been a reported breaking and entering incident as well as an attempted breaking and entering. Both incidents occurred during overnight hours,” the Department said in a release.
The first incident happened on April 28 around 5:30 a.m. Police said an intruder entered a home on Smithfield Avenue while the residents were sleeping.
The suspect fled after being confronted by residents. Police said the man ran towards Read Ave and was described as a white man, wearing a black mask and dark clothing.
Lincoln officers checked the area but were unable to find the suspected intruder.
The second incident happed May 6 at 2:30 a.m.
Residents in a home on Read Avenue were woken by loud banging. They found a suspect opening the storm door in the front of the home.
When the suspect saw the residents, he turn and fled on Orchard Street to Smithfield Avenue. The man was described as a man wearing a dark ski mask, a gray sweatshirt, and dark pants.
It is unknown if the two incidents are related.
The department plans to increase patrols in the area, according to Captain Philip Gould.
The Lincoln Police Department remind residents to lock their doors at night and report anything that seems suspicious.
