Lincoln Police say woman charged with DUI after ‘serious crash’
LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) — Lincoln police said a woman was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after a “serious crash” involving juveniles on Monday.
22-year-old Shirley Catalan Pineda, of Central Falls, was charged with driving under the influence and four counts of child endangerment.
Lincoln police responded to a crash on Jenckes Hill Road around 7 p.m. to find a vehicle that had veered off the road and hit a tree.
Police said the driver, identified as Pineda, had to be freed from the vehicle.
Once she was extricated, police said officers allegedly noticed an odor of alcoholic beverages and slurred speech from Pineda.
She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
On scene, police discovered there were seven people inside the vehicle when it crashed, including four juveniles.
Police said three juveniles had minor injuries from the crash and were taken to local hospitals.
Two additional occupants fled after the crash on foot.
Lincoln police said the individuals on scene were “uncooperative” and did not supply information regarding the two who fled the scene.
Police determined the vehicle was allegedly traveling at a “high rate of speed” when it steered off the road and struck the tree.
The crash is under investigation.
