Lisbon university confirms Brown suspect, murdered MIT professor attended at same time
LISBON, PORTUGAL (WLNE) — The school that Brown University mass shooting suspect Claudio Manuel Neves Valente and shooting victim MIT Professor Nuno Loureiro attended has confirmed that the two took the same course between 1995 and 2000.
ABC6 received a statement from the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, Portugal, confirming that Neves Valente attended the school during that time period, studying for a degree in Engineering Physics.
In addition, the school said that Loureiro, who was killed in his Brookline, Massachusetts home on Monday, led the Theory and Modeling group at the Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear, a research modeling unit at the school.
He began directing the Plasma Science and Fusion Center at MIT in May of last year, according to the institute.
The IST said that some of its professors continued to work with Loureiro until he was killed, and that the community remembered “a brilliant colleague, with whom it was a scientific and personal pleasure to collaborate.”
