WARWICK, R.I. – Around 150 people laced up their sneakers in Warwick for the annual Liver Life Walk.

The walk raises money for the American Liver Foundation, which has brought back more than $12 million to Rhode Island hospitals during the years, according to organizers.

This year’s Liver Life Champion, Louis Laprade of Woonsocket, tells ABC6 News he is alive because of an organ donor. He is encouraging more people to become organ donors. "You don’t have to be scared to donate your organs," he said. "That is a special gift that God has given you – to be able to do for other people in this life that are suffering through very agonizing months and years of liver disease."

Organizers hope to raise $25,000 from Sunday’s walk.
