Like it or not, “Super Lice” are infesting the nation, including in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Twenty-five states are dealing with the issue, as the lice are now resistant to over-the-counter treatments and prescription medications. However, a local clinic is offering a new treatment to be lice free.

A mom and her 12-year-old daughter who’s dealt with the “Super Lice” spoke with ABC6 about the young girl’s treatment. .

The girl has had lice for six months and nothing seems to work. Her mother says she’s spent hundreds of dollars on over-the-counter treatments and prescriptions, and has cleaned her home top to bottom.

It’s nothing new, but over time, lice have become resistant to many treatments.

Jeremy Pavao, owner of Lice Clinics of America in Warwick, says his company has a treatment that works.

At the lice clinic, they use a medical device that is FDA approved, called the Air–Alle. This device emits warm, dry air at 138.2 degrees through the hair. This treatment allows rapid dehydrating of the lice and eggs, eventually killing both.

The treatment takes about half an hour and is pain free. It was developed by Lice Clinics of America, which has clinics all over the country.
