Local fans react to the passing of Prince

Fans across Southern New England are still trying to wrap their heads around the news that pop superstar Prince has passed away.

"He was an individual above all else and really stuck to his guns about his vision,” said Jennifer Daltry one of the owners of What Cheer Records and Vintage in Providence.

Daltry dressed in purple on Thursday in the legend’s honor. When we caught up with her, Prince’s Dirty Mind album was spinning in her Providence store.

"It’s bittersweet because I love it, but it’s sad on a day like today,” said Daltry.

Across the city at Olympic Records were told several fans came in trying to buy Prince records as a way of coping with his passing.

"He really kind of merged many different genres of music to come up with really something that was his own sort of sound,” said the owner of Olympic Records, Kevin Morosini.

Prince’s many talents including his incredible skills on the guitar are something that Michael Samos tells us most admired. He’s seen the legend in concert 3 times.

"It was incredible there was very little glitz on stage it was mostly just a lot of people performing so you got the sense of a real celebration,” said Samos the Manager at Empire Guitar Store.

Fans on social media are taking the news hard. One writing, "RIP Prince Rogers Nelson. I loved your music I even danced in night clubs long time ago in the 1970’s and 1980’s. You were my favorite singer."

Even the Governor expressing her condolences. Raimondo calling Prince an unforgettable talent in a post on twitter.
