Local politicians look ahead to Monday’s debate

There are only three days left until Presidential Nominees Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton share the stage for the first time in the highly anticipated debate at Hofsta University.

“It is perhaps the most important Presidential Debate since 1980,” said Political Analyst and Providence College Professor Dr. Joe Cammarano.

Poll numbers are close. The most recent one placing Clinton ahead by 7 points.

"What we are going to look for is whether Hillary Clinton can actually present herself in a way that’s accessible and at least relatively likeable. Donald Trump the question is can he control his impulses,” said Cammarano.

Former Mayor Joe Paolino is a big Clinton supporter. He has high hopes for her performance Monday night.

"I hope she comes across not trying to be a street fighter with him. Whenever you get into a street fight with a street fighter you lose. Do as she did when she was in front of Congress. Talk to the people let them know how smart you are,” said Paolino.

Former Rep. Joe Trillo backs Trump. He says this is an important chance for the GOP nominee to get out his ideas.

"I want to see him come out very strongly again about locking the boarders. And, the fact that she wants to keep the borders open. You know right here in Rhode Island we spend a lot of money helping to support illegal immigrants,” said Trillo.
