Members of the German community are devastated by the attack.
Erika Danner was born and raised in Germany, but now lives in Rhode Island. She says she does still have family there, telling us they live just a few hours outside the city on Munich. Speaking with her family over the phone Friday, they tell her for the most part people are staying indoors, due to the uncertainty after the two attacks, and as of 5:00pm, the gunmen still on the loose. Danner says while this is a horrible thing that has happened, in this day in age it’s an unfortunate reality.
"I’m planning on going to Germany next year and she keeps on saying don’t come, don’t come. Why? Because of something like that. It seems like everyday there is something else," says Danner.
For now the state department through twitter is urging Americans to be aware of their surroundings and to maintain a high level of vigilance in order to be safe and secure.
