Locals make the most of snow day in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — People were out in full force at India Point Park during Tuesday’s snowstorm.

Locals said they were happy they finally got a snow day and certainly took advantage of the time off.

“We are throwing a lot of snowballs and taking advantage of the snow day,” said Andrew Song of Providence. “It has been fun and relaxing to kind of take a break from school and play in the snow.”

This was the first big weekday snowfall of the year, and with that came no school.

Parents and kids were all out Tuesday to embrace the winter wonderland in Providence.

Residents said they want more of these snow days.

“It is nice to have the snow for once,” said Rory Malloy of Providence. “It is beautiful out here on the bay. It’s nice and not too cold.”

Parts of Providence picked up around half a foot of snow.

Malloy was happy that a snow day meant everyone was home.

“The whole family is home, mom is working from home, the other two kids are at home,” Malloy said. “We have soup and sandwiches for lunch. It’s nice we are all having a good time.”

Looking ahead, ABC 6 storm trackers said that while there are no big snowstorms on the horizon, we could get a few more flakes before the week is over.
