PROVIDENCE – What started as flowers and a teddy bear has grown into a makeshift memorial near where a nine year-old was struck and killed by a RIPTA bus.
Candles, stuffed animals and a note reading “Rest In Peace Little Girl” are placed around a utility pole on Smith Street.
The third grader was crossing that street when the bus hit her Thursday morning. She was rushed to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, but it was too late.
“It just broke my heart,” said William Morgan. He told ABC6 News he lives down the street and felt compelled to pay his respects. “It’s just a shame that it happened.”
Police are still investigating the accident.
