LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) — The rollover that caused Route 146 in Lincoln to be blocked for over an hour on Friday was caused by a log splitter blocking the road, Rhode Island State Police said.

Police said that officers responded to the area near the Wilbur Street overpass on Route 146 South around 2:30 p.m.

There they found a log splitter that had jacknifed and was resting on the guardrail, blocking lanes on both sides of the highway.

The State police, the Lincoln Police Department, and the Rhode Department of Transportation closed both southbound lanes of Route 146 and the left lane of Route 146 North.

The state police department said that the owner of the pickup truck that was towing the log splitter said the  the trailer began to fishtail and he lost control.

He was cited by police for failure to maintain control.

During the incident southbound vehicles were detoured onto Route 295 and Route 116, while one northbound lane remained open.

The log splitter and pickup truck were both cleared by 4 p.m., according to officers.
