Lots of sunshine, mild next few days

Hurricane Erin will bring high surf and rip currents to the coast later this week

Hurricane Erin quickly intensified over the weekend, strengthening from a tropical storm into a Category 4 hurricane Friday into Saturday. It briefly strengthened into a Category 5 (the highest level on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale), and it is now a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 130mph as of this morning. Luckily, Erin will turn off to sea and avoid any direct land impacts. However, parts of the Turks and Caicos and Bahamas will see tropical storm conditions, and by the middle of this week, we will see high surf and dangerous rip currents. Be sure to use caution at the coastline this week.

Here at home, it will be a mild week with highs struggling to make it out of the 70s until Friday. Today, high temperatures will be in the low 70s and even remain in the 60s for some, with a gusty wind out of the northeast. We gradually get more sunshine in the mix this afternoon, remaining mostly clear overnight.

Tonight will be unseasonably cool with low temperatures in the 40s and 50s. This mild trend continues all the way through the end of the week – I don’t think we touch the 80 degree mark until Friday at the earliest. There’s a chance for a few much-needed rain showers late in the day Wednesday, but we stay dry otherwise.

Have a great week!
