Lt. Gov. candidate McKee outlines business plan

Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor Dan McKee outlined his plan to spur business in Rhode Island if he is elected Lt. Governor.

McKee, the current Mayor of Cumberland, announced his three prong approach to improve Rhode Island‘s struggling business climate. Accompanied by member of the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation, McKee said he plans to increase RI’s tax competitiveness by working with the Small Business Advisory Council to review the state’s tax structure against those of neighboring Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Secondly, McKee said he will look at Regulatory Compliance Costs, that is the impact that regulatory compliance has on Rhode Island‘s businesses.

“As the owner of a small business for more than 30 years, I have often questioned the logic of business and licensing regulations since they often have unintended financial consequences on a business’s ability to prosper and create jobs,” said McKee.

The third prong of his plan involves workforce development. As lt. Governor McKee said he will work with the Small Business Advisory Council and the Rhode Island Congressional delegation in order to target federal funding aimed at work force development.

McKee is running against Republican Catherine Taylor and Independent Tony Jones, who says if he is elected he will abolish the office.
