Luigi Mangione charged with murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. (WLNE) — The New York Police Department filed a first degree murder charge, as well as other charges, late Monday night against the 26-year-old accused of killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

An online court document shows that Luigi Mangione remains in custody of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections until he’s brought back to New York to face those charges.

Early Monday night in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Mangione, a former University of Pennsylvania graduate, was being held on five charges unrelated to the killing of Brian Thompson.

Some of those charges include carrying a gun without a license, possessing “instruments of crime,” and forgery.

Police said Mangione lied about his identity when he was found, had a ghost gun and a suppressor on him, and a three page document that spoke about his mindset.

“We don’t think there’s any specific threats to other people mentioned in that document, but it does seem that he has some ill will toward corporate America,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.

“In some dark corners, this killer is being hailed as a hero, hear me on this, he is no hero,” said Governor Josh Shapiro.
